Tyronne Silva to rock Colombo Deathfest DAILY MIRROR

Thursday, 29 July 2010 18:32

By Kshanika Argent

Death metal drummer Tyronne Silva of Orth, Germany will perform live at Sri Lanka’s first ‘Deathfest’ featuring metal heavyweights Fallen Grace, Old Castle Massacre, Funeral In Heaven, Paranoid Earthling and Legion.
Born in Nattandiya Sri Lanka, Tyronne Silva is the drummer of German death metal band Orth.
A musical prodigy, Tyronne started playing the drums almost as soon as he could grasp the sticks.

By the age of 9, Tyronne had built himself his own drum set - made entirely of an empty wooden tea box, a piece of wood, a tennis ball, different-sized plastic buckets, the snare from a metallic bucket, empty cola and Nivea cans for percussion and cymbals made out of metal sheets.

He’s come a long way since. After shifting to Germany in 1992, Tyronne learnt heavy-drumming later with Marcus Rein, (current drummer of Destruction) and afterwards he became a pupil of Lutz Renziehausen, author of 'Dums, vols. 1 and 2', and studied techniques, different styles, reading and writing notation.

After performing with various bands in the German metal circuit, Tyronne joined Orth, one of Germany’s first death metal bands (formed in Berlin in 1989). The band now produces a diverse and headstrong mix of Deathmetal, Grindcore, Trashmetal with strong groove hardcore influence.
Tyronne is now back in the land it began, and hopes to encourage young drummers around the country through workshops and special programs. The Deathfest concert however is a treat for metal fans as some of the country’s biggest local acts in metal come together on one stage with a drumming legend on August 1, from 3:00pm at Clancy's Pub.

Event sponsors include www.rock.lk, www.dailymirror.lk, AWN Radio, and Studio 666 and tickets are priced at Rs 500.

Sorry to be harsh. But no- I'm more than a little disappointed that the show started over 3 hours late, while the soundcheck hadn't even begun at 3. Sets were cut way short and he show hadn't even finished by the time I left. Not sure why this is, as I saw bands turning up past 4.30 and taking very long soundchecks, while Tyronne has already finished his soundcheck by 3. I spoke to the guy and he was under the impression that everything was supposed to have been finished by 2. Sorry boys, but it did not come across as professional. Next time, if the gig is going to be delayed by so much then at least reduce the ticket price to reflect the reduced length of the show Smiley

Show itself was ok, although it was really hard to hear the guitars when FIH was playing, which is a shame cos that's the band I came to see aside from Tyronne. Legion was pretty impressive as well. If there's some good reason for the delays then fair enough, but we have got to do something about this bad habit of starting gigs hours behind schedule.

Yeah bro's we had a slight problem going on with the placing of the instruments. Its really hard since we have more instruments on stage (The thabla mic requires highest volume possible because of the strokes Dineth is playing, or the strokes any other thablist does for that matter, and since the space issue was there, he couldnt place himself anywhere NEAR a monitor because that would directly result in a bad feedback and fuck the whole thing up), we're still looking for a plausible solution for this. It got real messy today because we had to make room for Ty aiya's kit. So in light of this space issue today, our guitarists and their backing amps were separated, hence resulting in them not hearing what they were playing. So one thing led to another and shit happened, as it tends to do at times Smiley But we really had fun performing on stage at the Fest, Ty aiya, all the great bands, great crowd. Speaking of which, I think I just saw one of the most violent pits in my life for some song we were performing (A bit TOO violent apparently Tongue ), which made me smile my ass off. Thank you so much for all of that. I'll post an official 'thank you' note later on as always. Our next show will be the MANZER/ORATOR gig in November. Hope you all liked the new one from the debut, "Awaiting the Gara Yaka Spectre". It was great to have performed for all of you!

Poddak parakku unahama moko bung? ape parana kattiya set wela talkak daala wasak wisak ehema daala thathwekata enna puluwan. dont complain every time when a gig is over about the starting time. the organizers are always trying to do there level best. we are coming to see the bands and we'll stay till the gig finishers even if its two minuets to mid night.

About the fest!! IT WAS SUPERB!!! The best I've been so far. Start off LEGION WAS EXCELLENT!! loved the Vader and the Obituary covers. OCM was good looking forward to see them more often. FIH was tight as always (Loved norsk's new corps paint Smiley ). To be honest i didnt notice any glitchers. Wasn't the best performance of Paranoid though. FALLEN GRACE TOTALLY KICKED ASS!! The best performance of the night.

Tyrone Silva Damn what a performance. A HUGE FUCK YOU goes out to the buggers who missed the gig today.

Thanx Doc for and awesome fest. Want to see Death Fest Happening again every year!! Hail Sri Lankan Metal.
